File extension PPD is an acronym for PostScript Printer Description. Vendors generate these files to give descriptions of the whole range of attributes and capabilities available for their PostScript printers. A PPD file extension is related to other file extensions such as acm, ax, cpl, dll, dl, drv, hdi, hif, lib, ocx, pbd, and vbd. PPD files enhance printer communication while also ensuring that the information send from a computer is the one that is actually encoded and reproduced by the printer.
